Jagriti Yatra is an initiative of Jagriti Sewa Sansthan, a non-governmental organization that promotes entrepreneurship. The annual train-journey is spread across States, taking selected participants through social enterprises from different locations.
In 2012, Kirti Poonia was among the participants in the Yatra. She was working at TCS at the time, and had no plans for entrepreneurship then. "I was conditioned to believe that I have to be in a corporate setting doing very intellectual work, and I had not thought that I would run such a company. I’d changed as a person," she tells MAKERS India.
However, the Jagriti Yatra exprience made an impact on Kirti, who later went on to head one of the social enterprises she met during the train journey. Today, as the Head of Okhai, she is credited with taking the NGO to new heights.
