Welcome back to Alphabets of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, a series to help you learn more and educate others around you on what the different, and often misconstrued, letters in the spectrum stand for. Today, we'll be talking about what the T in LGBTQIA+ stands for — transgender. Transgender people are those who identify with a different gender than the one they've been assigned at birth. They can be male, female, or nonbinary! These concepts may be new and hard to grasp as we've all been taught differently growing up, so we've broken down the basics for you in this video.
While a single video cannot possibly cover it all, through people who are representatives of the community, we hope to clear a few common misconceptions. And we encourage you to further educate yourselves through various sources (accurate portrayals in texts and media, trans influencers, activists, public figures, etc) outside of this video.
