After Pink Hoysala patrolling vehicles for women and children and the Suraksha safety app, Bengaluru City Police has now launched ‘We for Women’, which is an all-women motorcycle riding brigade. Launched in partnership with motorcycle manufacturing brand Royal Enfield, the women riding brigade will ensure women and children’s safety while patrolling the city.
Divya Sara Thomas, IPS and DCP at the City Armed Reserve Headquarters, Bengaluru, who leads the project said, “With more women being inducted into the force, there is a need to empower them further. Under the ‘We for Women’ initiative, we have trained 15 lady sub-inspectors as of now and will continue to grow this team of motorcyclists. We want these women to lead by example and inspire other women as well while keeping the city safe.”

The training for the 15 women officers was carried out in two phases. Beginning in October, Phase I included an introduction to Royal Enfield motorcycles such as the Himalayan, Interceptor 650, and Classic Signals 350. Whereas Phase II involved riding and being familiarised with Bengaluru city traffic conditions, which took place in December and January.
Bengaluru City Police and Team Royal Enfield stated that besides highlighting smart and dedicated women officers, the endeavour sets out to break gender stereotypes.
The newly-formed brigade was commemorated with a ride to Nandi hills, flagged off by Bhaskar Rao, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru city, at the office of City Armed Reserve Headquarters, Bengaluru.
