A rally to recruit women officers in the Corps of Military Police (CMP) under the Soldier General duty category started on January 12 and will be conducted in Pune, Maharashtra, till January 14.
The recruitment exercise will be organised at the Army Institute of Physical Training (AIPT) in the Hadapsar area of Pune.
The recruitment process aims to generate employment for younger women of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa, thereby providing them with an opportunity to serve their motherland, and lead a dignified life.
In 2020, the Supreme Court had ordered the Indian government to grant permanent commission to women officers in the Indian Army’s non-combat support units on par with their male counterparts; if they wish to continue with it after completing their short-service commission. The move was intended to bring gender equality in the defence services.
Close to 1,000 candidates from Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, and the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu have been shortlisted for the recruitment process, according to Times of India.
Candidates were required to register and apply online on the Indian Army website (www.joinindianarmy.nic.in). The registration was based on the cut-off generated for Class 10 marks.
Prospective candidates will be screened as per the schedule intimated over the three days. These candidates will be biometrically verified and admit cards for the rally will be scanned before candidates are allowed entry to undergo actual selection tests.
The selection tests will happen in three phases — physical tests, medical tests, and a common entrance written examination.
Those found physically and medically fit will undergo an entrance test, and candidates selected in the final merit list will be called upon to join the Indian Army for service to the nation in the CMP.
According to DNA, the Indian Army is set to start the second batch of recruitment rally for women military police from January 18-30, 2021, to be held in Lucknow this month.
The recruitment process will be for interested women candidates from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and will take place at the AMC Center and College stadium in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
