In 2019, Ishwariya Ganesh bought herself the Olympic class RSX women windsurfing equipment and started training with senior national champions like Jerome, Prakash and Derrick.
The 18-year-old had recently bagged gold in the women’s RSX windsurfing Olympics class at the Senior National Sailing Championship conducted by the Indian Navy in Mumbai earlier this year.
This huge victory has given her a platform to represent India at the Mussanah Open Championship 2021 in Oman (UAE) from April 3-8, 2021, marking her debut of international surfing on one of the world’s biggest sport stages. The Mussanah Championship is the qualifying event for Asia and Africa qualifiers for Tokyo Olympics.
Ganesh’s journey into this unexplored profession for women proves that talent and grit is a marker to distinguish women and not gender. Rising through barriers, she has set standards to inspire the nation and young girls. Let’s ride you through her life as she gears up mentally and physically for her biggest moment in the sport.
