Meet the Woman Who Aims to Make Mental Health Care Accessible and Inclusive

MAKERS India•8 October 2020

Gurgaon-based Shumita Kakkar, founder of mental health platform United We Care started this venture in 2019, after having a flourishing corporate career for over a decade. Through this initiative, she aims to empower people from all walks of life to take charge of their mental health and break the stigma that’s associated with this topic.

Although there are several mental health platforms sprouting by the day, United We Care stands out from the rest. It integrates social, mental, financial and legal aspects to provide services for men, women, children, and the LGBTQ+ community, who are facing several adversities in their lives and are unable to speak up due to the stigma in the larger society.

Backed by Pee Safe founder Vikas Bagaria, United We Care has a large pool of professional psychologists, life coaches, and lawyers that are adept at helping resolve all kinds of concerns. The platform aims to solve the problem of accessibility and affordability that exists in this sector.

The mental health platform has also integrated new-age technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to help understand the concerns of the users, who seek help on the platform. Once an individual logs in to the app, a few simple questions are based, after which they can pick their medium to communicate with the professional suggested by the platform, or even choose one on their own.

They are also in the process of launching their emotional health virtual assistant Stella, who can be accessed 24x7 to chat or talk to the users. Stella can help with Basic CBT (Cognitive behavioral therapy) CAT (Cognitive analytical therapy), humanistic, interpersonal or couple therapy.

This is not the first time that Shumita turned entrepreneur. After working with telecom giants like Vodafone and Samsung, she had started up in the entertainment sector, with Airtel and Vodafone among her clients.
