Nalini Shekar, Co-Founder of Hasiru Dala

Nalini Shekar, is a social activist and the Co-Founder of Hasiru Dala, an organization that works exclusively towards helping and giving justice to marginalized wastepickers in India.

Intending to retire after coming back from the US, where she worked towards bettering the issue of violence against women, she was immediately driven to improve the harrowing conditions of the wastepickers in Bangalore. By 2015, she provided close to 550 jobs and helped organize close to 8000 wastepickers.

She has won several awards, including being honored by Arnold Schwarznegger, the Governor of California.
