This week, MAKERS India pays its homage to the some of the fiercest female pioneers of science in India. Today, let's look at Anandi Gopal Joshi, the first Indian woman to graduate with an MD in western medicine in 1886.
She began her medical training at the age of nineteen. Her journey was so inspiring that she got much publicity in the Indian press, and on her graduation, the then Queen of England, Empress of India, Queen Victoria sent her a congratulatory message.
