On May 17, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Union Health Ministry removed the use of plasma for COVID-19 treatment from its clinical management protocols.
The move was announced after scientists wrote to principal scientific adviser K VijayRaghavan emphasizing that convalescent plasma transfusions held no benefits for COVID-19 patients. ‘The Lancet’ too published the results of the RECOVERY clinical trial, which revealed that transfusions didn’t improve the recipient’s chances of survival after 28 days.
