Women from different fields are voicing their opinions on political matters, and how! From MP Mahua Moitra’s controversial statements in Lok Sabha to people like Meena Harris and Mia Khalifa continuing to support the farmers' issue, we have seen it all in the last week.
Recently, journalist Faye DSouza conducted a panel discussion to understand more on the tiff between the government and the farmers.
Twitter Vs Govt Standoff@YayathiPuru says, "I say it should be on questions of freedom of speech which is a constitutionally guaranteed right, the constitutional courts have to step in."#Twitter

US Vice-President Kamala Harris’ niece and lawyer, Meena Harris is now a prominent supporter of the farmers' protest. Amidst the protest, 23-year-old Dalit labour activist Nodeep Kaur was arrested on January 12th 2021 and has been in police custody since. Meena, through her tweets, helped bring notice to Nodeep's arrest.
Weird to see a photo of yourself burned by an extremist mob but imagine what they would do if we lived in India. I'll tell you—23 yo labor rights activist Nodeep Kaur was arrested, tortured & sexually assaulted in police custody. She's been detained without bail for over 20 days. pic.twitter.com/Ypt2h1hWJz

Mahua Moitra made some bold and strong remarks while speaking at the Lok Sabha. Despite plenty of backlashes, Mahua is not ready to step back and these tweets prove the same.
You cannot bully me into silence with threats of privilege motions
You cannot abuse high office, retire, & then hide under cover of Article 121

In other news, the judgment on MJ Akbar's criminal defamation case against journalist Priya Ramani was scheduled last week. While the case has been deferred to February 17 by a Delhi Court, many women including fellow journalists like Barkha Dutt and Smitha Nairextended their support to Priya.
I don't even think I need to say this. But of course. I stand with #PriyaRamani. A matter of satisfaction that a @washingtonpost piece I wrote on Akbar was quoted in court proceedings. This will be a definitive case and I sure hope the courts don't let us down.

VerdictDay #PriyaRamani
It is crushing that a victim had to stand trial in a criminal defamation case, when not a single perpetrator named in #MeToo faced charges.
Here’s hoping #truth is defence enough
