An election manifesto enlists the policies that a political party promises to fulfil, if they are voted to power. Yet, for the longest time, there existed no single platform that provided consolidated information about poll-bound promises and candidates. This is exactly what the Chennai hub of the Global Shapers Community decided to address ahead of the Tamil Nadu 2021 Legislative Assembly Election. Thus was born the portal, Election Promises.
Pavithra Murugan, who is a part of the core team of Election Promises, shared that the platform’s focus has always been to provide voters information about the promises made by political parties as well as the background of the candidates contesting in the elections. According to Murugan, in no way does the platform want to influence users towards a particular ideology.
The pre-poll promises made by parties are listed under different categories such as agriculture, education, employment and women making it easier for users to compare related information.
Following the success of Election Promises during the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election, the team plans to take it to other state elections as well.
