Preethi Kasireddy has seized every opportunity that she has encountered on her journey - as a venture analyst, a software engineer and as an entrepreneur. Fancying a global challenge over the financial stability that Silicon Valley gave her, she carved her own story, thereby becoming one of the youngest internet entrepreneurs.
Now synonymous with blockchain technology, Preethi Kasireddy is the founder and CEO of TruStory, the platform that is striving to mould the digital world into a truer and more authentic space. Founded in 2017, TruStory acts as a social network that enables productive debate.
Based out of Los Angeles, Preethi – now in her late 20s - is the jack of all trades with expertise as an investment banker, engineer, and now an entrepreneur.
A tech guru in the making
Born to Indian-origin parents in the US, Preethi was brought up in New Jersey. Although her parents wanted her to be a doctor, Preethi’s passion was in engineering. Preethi earned her Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering & Systems Engineering from the University of Southern California in 2012. Alongside the sciences, she also minored in business. With soaring high GPAs throughout her college life, Preethi graduated with a 3.97 grade point.
As a university student she was engaged with various on-campus groups such as South Asian Rural Student Aid (as the Vice President of Finance), the National Engineering Honors Society, Society of Women Engineers, a Peer Health Educator, and as a teacher at the Joint Educational Program at USC.
Climbing up the career ladder
Preethi kick started her career at Goldman Sachs as an Investment Banking Analyst till 2013. Goldman Sachs taught her how tech-company financials work, as she was working in close collaboration with CEOs and CFOs preparing for IPO rounds and acquisitions.
Later she joined private equity firm Andreessen Horowitz, as a Partner. For two years, she worked with the trailblazers of the web - Ben Horowitz and Marc Andreessen and learnt the A to Z of successful tech startups.
Soon after, she transitioned to software engineering with Coinbase, which culminated in her becoming an entrepreneur in the tech field. Preethi’s motivation came from the empowerment she felt as a creator. With the element of fun, being an engineer, she thought, felt less like ‘work’.
As a developer, Preethi travelled all around the world and saw the growing potential for innovation and technology beyond Silicon Valley. Preethi spent much of her time researching blockchain technologies around the world given its growth in Berlin, Toronto, China and Bangkok.
While learning to write code that runs on Ethereum, Preethi noticed the large number of false claims that people were making on the topic.
Stepping out of the comfort zone of Silicon Valley to fight such fake news, Preethi started TruStory.
Young, driven and beyond passionate
November 2017 marked the inception of TruStory, a social network that facilitates productive debate by permitting users to validate the numerous claims made online by people, especially on topics related to blockchain technology.. Preethi kept record of the number of false claims made on the internet and was determined to have her company change that. Unlike Facebook and Twitter, where discussions are rare and monologues rule the day,
TruStory offers a platform to have all sides of a story being heard by the people of the internet. Its mission is to ‘make the internet more open-minded by incentivizing people to hear all sides of a debate.’ Currently, its userbase mostly comprises college students, teachers, and young intellectuals. The debates on the platform often cover controversial topics such as Ethereum governance.
TruStory, which has raised $3million from multiple investors, aims to “bring authenticity back into the digital and decentralized world.”
Initially, TruStory’s secret formula of algorithms and knowledge professionals (like scientists and researchers) verified these claims and judges the legitimacy of the person. Recently, it pivoted to becoming an online debate platform where users can debate issues.
As internet pervades every aspect of our lives, fake news is becoming virtually indistinguishable from reality. Never before has fact-checking technology played a larger role in our day-to-day lives. And Preethi Kasireddy is at the helm of it all, taking the fight against fake news strongly forward every day.
