Hailing from an athletic family, Priya Punia grew up playing a wide range of sports including lawn tennis, badminton and cricket. The 24-year-old cricketer from Rajasthan recalled that it was her father who encouraged her to pursue cricket and even helped her pad up for the first time. Her younger brother has also played for the district team in Rajasthan.
Since the scope for women’s cricket was limited in Jaipur, the family shifted to Delhi where Punia played with boys as well. She was 13 when she was selected for Delhi under-19 team and made her Women’s T20 debut in 2019.
While her prowess on the field is well known, she regularly interacts with fans on social media, making her a crowd favourite.
