Bollywood actors Hema Malini and Sushmita Sen on Friday revealed that they have been conferred with the National Award titled Champions Of Change Award.
Sushmita won the award for her contribution to women empowerment and social welfare. She took to her Instagram handle to share the news where she was seen celebrating her win with boyfriend Rohman Shawl and daughters Renee and Alisah.
Sharing a couple of pictures on her Instagram account, Sushmita wrote, “Thank you @championsofchangeawards for this National Award for Social welfare & Women empowerment. I receive it on behalf of our nation’s strongest backbone, WOMEN!!! Thank you for honouring us!!! Let’s continue to take small steps & big changes will follow!!! Love, Gratitude & Respect!”
Sushmita also hosted an Instagram live with her followers, wherein she spoke about what the award means for her. "I know my father would be really, really proud as he served our nation as an officer of the Indian Air Force for many, many years.”
“When our country recognises women, they empower women. To be born a woman is a gift but to be at the service of women is a privilege. To get awarded for the same is a humbling experience,” the actor said. Sushmita also thanked her fans for their love. She wrote, “Your love is my greatest Award!”
Meanwhile, Hema took to her Twitter handle and expressed her joy by sharing pictures with the award. She tweeted, "I am happy to be one of the recipients of the prestigious CHAMPIONS OF CHANGE AWARD, 2021."
Stating her reason for winning the award, the veteran actress added, "This is for my contribution as a classical dancer, actress and for my work as an MP in the constituency of Mathura. It is awarded to people who have made outstanding contribution to society."
Champions of Change is an annual Indian award, that is given for promoting Gandhian values, community service, and social development.
