Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) candidate, Surabhi Vani Devi, daughter of former prime minister PV Narasimha Rao, won the legislative polls recently held in the state. She won as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) of Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mehboobnagar Graduates constituency, after giving a tough fight to Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) candidate N Ramchander Rao. Devi secured a whopping 1,89,339 votes, with 92 candidates in the fray.
BJP’s Rao secured 1,37,566 votes and independent candidate Professor Nageswar got 67,383 votes.
Devi is a newbie in the political circle, and her party’s decision to field her as a contestant had raised quite a few eyebrows from both the ruling and opposition parties.
